MAC Video ?
« on: July 13, 2006, 06:48:07 PM »
I have a friend who has a DVD of his band playing a local gig and wants to make some copies for his friends.
He tells me that he can view it on his G5 but if ya load it in a PC the disc is unreadable and it will play in a home DVD player but locks up after a few minutes.

Anyone have any idea on what may cause this.
I told him it sounded like a format problem to me but I don’t even know what format a Mac uses.  I’ve never touched a Mac in my life.

Any help is gratefully appreciated.
Nick

the same formats pc's use...

maybe the disc is just corrupt and the mac drive had more tolerance to handle it?

That’s kind of what I thought Scott.  But he got 4 separate copies form the venue  (they taped everything via 3 pro HD camera's and edited it for him for him allowing them to tape the set)  And they say everything is fine on there end.

He's gonna drop me a copy at the Rusted Root show tomorrow evening and I will see what I can make of it.

I've had this issue before on my G5 and the only way around it was to extract and re-burn the DVD. I've found that my Mac seems to be quite tolerant of discs that other players won't play.

hey Nick, whats it burned on? DVD-R or DVD+R media, I have had strange problems with the +R DVD's not playing in some players. So I have tried to avoid them and only use the -R's. just a thought.

thats a good point, based on how old the player is
most old players have a hard time playing +r discs (assuming they play -, some don't play - either)
however new players, for the mopst part, will play both - and +

the older the player usually the pickier it was with brand too
Mics - AKG ck61/ck63 (c480b & Naiant actives), SP-BMC-2
XLR Cables - Silver Path w/Darktrain stubbies
Interconnect Cables - Dogstar (XLR), Darktrain (RCA > 1/8) (1/8 > 1/8), and Kind Kables (1/8f > 1/4)
Preamps - Naiant Littlebox & Tinybox
Recorders - PCM-M10 & DR-60D
