switched L/R mics by accident
« on: August 25, 2009, 11:42:24 PM »
Hello - I recorded with my CA-11's around my neck and had them pointed at the stacks X/Y for the most part - I had the R and the left, and vice versa.  i would like to switch the channels back in processing because I'm afraid there will be weird spatial issues.  I use Audacity, is there any easy way to do this?  Thanks!

Can you really notice it? I recorded a few bands at The Vibes this year on Friday with my mics the same way, reversed, and I really can"t notice the diference in sound between the sets that are right and those which were wrong..

it sounded a little weird, especially since they ran in stereo.  Once I switched them it seemed more "open" if that's the right word.

One time I accidentally taped a show with one KM 140 and one KM 150.

Actually sounded pretty good.

I remember a reference on here were someone recorded a show with the mics facing backwards (to the back of the venue)..  I dont remember the outcome.. anyone remember?

I would assume if the wall was close to them and didn't have any padding, it might sound listenable.  Otherwise, if they were cards, probably not.

YES you really can. This is one of the most important things to make sure you check before you start to record.. Left must be left and right must be right :) If not your image is all screwed up and your recordings will just not sound right.

Which is why I ran some in-home tests with my ADK TL's before taking them out into the field ... and why I re-tested the directionality again on their first field outing ... with capsules on both sides of the mic I was totally paranoid about which way they needed to be facing.

Awesome. David said you were like The Wolf in Pulp Fiction. Shows up just in time with tons of gear, does a pro job, and disappears into the night! :-)

I usually tap the right mic just before the show starts or at the end to know which is which because I don't have the mics labeled L/R and I don't always get the time to figure it out when getting set up.  If it's backwards when I get home, I just swap them in Audition.
