Computer Tally
« on: April 02, 2003, 09:51:45 AM »
So I'm curious what people are using around here for their machines, both home and recording and whatefver else you might have.  Computers and laptops only... we will save PDA's for another day.

As for me:

Dual G4
P4 1.6
IBM NetVista all in one

Yes 3 seperate machines for a college student in a 750 sq foot apartment.  and yes I use them all, though my Mac gets used the least I'd say.

I'll jump in on this one...

Home: G4/400 (Spark ME, Sound Studio, SoundEdit 16, ESI U2A for transfers)
Laptop: G3/500 (I think) iBook
Work: G4/800 iMac

Yeah, I'm in publishing...no steenkin' PC's around here. ;D

OK, mine is the shittiest:

Laptop: Macintosh G3 233mhz (Wall Street), 64mb memory, 2gb HD.  Didn't come with a USB port so I am using one of those Belkin PC Card > USB adaptors.  Firewire?  What's that?  I bought my CD burner off Ebay for $25 and use an external SCSI interface for it.

EgoSys U2A for transfers, Spark LE for recording the file, Adaptec CDSpinDoctor (part of Toast Deluxe) for tracking.

Bit accuracy?  I shudder to think.

Bought it in 1998 for $3,000; still running fine today!

did you guys see those new Laptops manufactured for the Army?  Amazing!  Dude was standing on a deck holding the lappy about waist high.  he proceeds to just drop it on it's end/ corner from that height!  he picks it up, dusts it off, sets it on the table, and pours a full cup of coffee right into the keyboard!  freakin' AWESOME!  i didn't catch who the manufacturer was, but i'd love to know.

There's a guy who comes around work sometimes who has one of those.
He's an insurance adjuster so he has to have a tough notebook...I think its called a "toughbook" not really sure, but he poured a cup of water on it one day to prove a point when I was asking about it.
Never missed a lick!!
One of the most amazing things I've ever seen...A guy dumping a cup of water on his notebook!!

Ok, Here's my 'Puters
For recording:
X-Technology 2.4 Ghz P4 Laptop with 512mb DDR, 40 GB HD,4 USB 2.0 and 1 firewire ports. Burner ect. (will be running a MMe into this for 24/48 very soon)

Home Desktop:
Althalon XP 1700+ series, 256 m DDR 40 GB HD, Hercules GT-XP card for transfers. I'll probably be adding a Tuner card as well and a DVD-R burner so I can start recording shows off TV (and dump the last VCR in the house)

Building a lower end PC for my son soon as well. He just needs to play his Bob The Builder Video games and my wife needs to check email. That way I can keep them off mine ;D

Work:

2 different P3 machines, But since I'll have the G4 now I won't be using these much.

Some G4 mac (just got it as I switched jobs the other day) so real details. I may try and pick up a G4 Powerbook for use at home for telecommuting (and taping of course) ;)

Oh, shit, Bri! We used to have one of those! Wait, is that a Mac Classic or a Mac SE? We had the SE. I played the always-bitchin' "Where in Europe is Carmen Sandiego?" and my pa was all about Sargon IV, that chess game with the sweet intro. Anyone remember these?

Dude, Jonny, The Oregon Trail was WAY too advanced for the Mac Classics (and especially the SEs). I think Apple stopped making them in '89 or something.
Now on those sweet Apple LCIIs, THOSE were the shit! I just loved hunting those stupid bison to extinction. Hey jbush, I bet I could take you on in a squirrel-hunting contest. I got mucho rodent sniping experience in 4th grade computer lab.

Hehe nice capture :)

I still have a working Apple IIc, Apple IIgs, and an old mac I can't even recall the name of right now.  That IIgs kicked butt for the games back in the day.  You could play the entire library of Apple II games, plus all the new "16 bit" IIgs games.  Wowza.  My dad ran one regularly until about 3 years ago :D

My favorite Apple II game was WIZARDRY by far...  And for the Mac SE I had in high school...  Some WWII bomber game, real high tech for it's day.  LOL those were the days...

Lots of macintoshes here.  My wife (a graphic designer by trade) has been pushing for years to get me to buy her a mac.  I'm a web/app .NET developer so they aren't a bit of use to me.

But, see, if I could use it for taping...

;)

We've still got a //e at my parents' place that still gets some us. Anyone remember SpinDizzy? My brother actually sat down last year and managed to map every single room and grab every single jewel of that game... :o talk about your wastes of time! That and Decathlon rocked...and Hardball!

Had the Mac Color Classic in college and used to waste a shitload of time playing Maelstrom. The best part was getting the alternate sound packs so you could hear Homer scream "Doh...doh...doh...doh..." when your ship blew up...hehe...

I should have qualified that.  I work for a company that is 98% microsoft win2k (and the 2% UNIX is on it's way out in favor of win2k servers).  All our desktops run win2k.  All my development is done for win2k/IIS/.NET servers.  I write everything in C#.NET.

I have no use for a Mac!  Other than taping :)

Do you do windows development on the mac platform?  I did that in college, but haven't thought about using a mac since...

16 MHZ, it would be fun to try Wings of Fury at 16MHZ :)  FWIW the stock IIgs ran at 2.7 MHz, IIRC (the stock Apple II's at 1MHz).
