Wavelab resampling causing SBEs?
« on: September 30, 2005, 10:38:52 AM »
Apparently the Crowes shows I seeded Wednesday night (http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=18473) has SBEs all throughout the 2nd set.

No idea what could've happened, as I tracked the sets with CD Wav as always. The only difference between this and pretty much every other show I've ever taped/seeded was the resampling process.

The first set I resampled to 44.1 when it was still one long wav, then tracked/flacked/etc. The 2nd set I'd already tracked when I realized it was still at 48kHz. I then did a batch resample, encoded to flac, and thought it was ready to go.

Any ideas? Has Wavelab been known to do this? I'd always used Soundforge before, but got a copy of Wavelab and figured I'd give it a shot. I know I'd done individual track resampling without any errors in SF.

Right now nothing...in the past: Schoeps CMC6, AKG 480, AKG 460, AKG 414, MBHO 603a, Neumann KM100, ADK TL>Schoeps MK4, Schoeps MK2, Schoeps MK41, AKG ck61, AKG ck62, AKG ck63, Neumann AK40, Neumann AK50, MBHO ka200>Lunatec V2, Lunatec V3, Apogee Mini-Me, Oade M148, Oade M248, Sound Devices MP2, Sonosax SXM2>Sony (mod)SBM1, Apogee AD500>D7, D8, D100, M1, R1, R4, R09, iRiver HP120, Microtrack

check Damon's WL thread/

if i'm not mistaken. it was brought up in that thread about the how the batch processor can be a little flakey in "our versions" of WL 5.

just use flac frontend to correct the SBE's when encoding and problem solved ;)

Actually, I think you might be getting a click because the waveforms don't match exactly at the beginnings and ends of the tracks, in addition to whatever length issues are going on.

They would match up fine if you resampled the whole thing before tracking.

I've had this problem myself.  Line the files up sequentially and I will bet you the waves don't flow into each other at the track marker... so best just to resample before tracking.

and if wavelab chokes on the files saying their too big, just set the temp file size to 24 or 16-bit float temp files instead of the 32-bit default ;)

two things,

1) definately resample before tracking, as the waveforms will not be the same length as the 48k file.
2) use the appropriate markers, not just the general track markers, like "cd begin", "cd splice", and "cd end"
i find it's easier to just insert general markers and then right-click, edit to different types of markers.  in this screen you can line up to SB properly.

i think damon's thread also explains it well.

Why would you ever track before mastering?
