Firewire card recommendations for PC running Windows XP
« on: November 17, 2006, 04:28:14 PM »
I need to buy a firewire card for my PC, can anyone recommend a good one. I need the 6 pin type, not the 4 pin. This would be to connect my HD-P2 to my PC to upload shows.

Thanks!

The Adaptec is the only way to go, It is a little more expensive but all the other ones i have tried can be flakey at times or suddenly loose thier drivers.  I have been using one since a few days after i got my 722 w/o hassel

Agreed.  Any old generic firewire card will probably work, but I've experienced strange disconnects and general oddities with cards other than Adaptec or Belkin.  Pay the extra for the brand name (as opposed to the $29 CompUSA cards) for added reliability.  SIIG has a good rep too (I've never tried them) and LaCie as well (these are more expensive than the Adaptecs though!)

They were found on ebay for less than $6 shipped.
