D-Sled How to?
« on: January 28, 2004, 12:50:16 PM »
I've serached around and can't find a good how-to page on building a battery sled.  I searched this site and found nothing...I found simp-dawgs post but he said the batteries were taped together.  :P  (The thing LOOKED really sweet though!)

I know there must be a page out there somewhere!!

Thanks! :)

Easy.  Get 4-cell D sled at RS.  Wire device's power adapter to end of wires running out of the sled.  Put batteries in sled.  Plug power adapter into device.

What are you trying to power?

I'm not trying to power anything. :P  Looking for an online how-to page to add to my "portable power" web page.  If I can't find anything I may have to go buy the parts just to make the how to page! :)

No pics, but here's the page...

Here's some alternate pics of sleds that Leonard Lombardo makes:

EDIT: Just found some more pages, linked from http://www.wagnerone.com/enteract/dat/portable_power/

http://www.shoey.com/dat/batterypack.html (D7 or D8)
http://members.tripod.com/~groovin/battery.html (D100 or M1)

David Landsberger is the guy who built mine for me; his site is still up thanks to archive.org, but he's doing doctoral work in Australia so I doubt he can come through for you. ;) Link included just so you can see what his looks like.

fyi on my sled (call it a c-sled i guess since that's what size batts i used) the batteries weren't actually taped together, just the sleds themselves and the wires...yeah i know a real jerry-rigged job but it does hold together well especially in the little case i put it in and it does work.  even if my d3 doesn't :P

Duh, should've realized, Brian.  There are a couple links to DIY D-cell sleds over at Victor Yiu's D7/D8 Resource Guide.
