FAKE microSD card issue
« on: August 25, 2019, 08:26:46 AM »
I know this has been covered on this site before, but just as a reminder, please check your cards before using.
I didn't this past Friday night and had a terrible experience.

I purchased 2 new Samsung 32GB microSD cards from Amazon. One was official, but the other one was "fake".
I'll give you a guess as to which one caused the issue.
It was a 4GB card reformatted to give the impression of 32GB.

Thank goodness I tape with multiple sources (4 at this particular show) and I was still able to get a nice capture,
but it's still a hard lesson to learn. Getting my $13 from Amazon back is easy enough, but going back in time to
re-record the show is going to be a challenge.

I use the H2Testw program to help identify the good from the bad. I just forgot to check these 2 and ...
well, you know the rest of the story  :bawling:

Here's a side x side comparison of the good vs bad ... sorry for the out of focus picture but you can still see the difference in color/shade.

Sorry to hear that!
Out of curiosity: Was is a Amazon marketplace seller, “fulfilled by Amazon” seller or Amazon themselves that sold you this crap?
Roland R-07 -> FEL Communications Clippy EM172 Omnis or pair of RØDE Lavaliers.
iPhone 14 -> Shure MV88 or Sennheiser AMBEO Smart Headset

Crazy that someone would fake such a cheap card, those are like $5-7!

Is the lighter one on the bottom the real one?

Sold & Fulfilled by Amazon. I try to avoid the marketplace as much as possible :)

Yes. The lighter card is the real one. The other (fake) has more of an orange/red tint to it.
