with BatterySpace Universal Laptop battery? I presume the voltage is right (no?), but I'm wondering if the adaptor plugs fit out of the box or I'd have to DIY-it.

if the battery you are talking about is this one...
http://www.batteryspace.com/product.asp?0=238&1=287&3=172
then, yes, it is the one you want. i used this battery pack to power my 410 before i sold it and i currently use it to power my firewire audiophile. oh, and one of the adapter plugs fits it perfectly.

Yep, that is the one. It looked like a simple and affordable solution, but wanted to check if anyone's tried it. Thanks for the reply.

Glad to see you guys have found a solution to the FW410 power issue. I had two questions though. 1) is the input jack 2.1mm? because I just ordered this battery pack:
http://www.soloperformance.com/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabid=22&productID=22&selection=0
2) should this work?
The voltage matches, 12V. but I don't really know a thing about electricity and what not. What would the battery life be compared to the other solution? Thanks.
btw, it's really great to see such an encitefull and exciting group as this.

I've noticed that as long as the FW410 is in standby, it will retain the original spdif routing you last assigned it. Does anyone know how much power the standby consumes? I assume this is the way people are doing this...
