Title: Phono pre-amp?
Post by: super-phat-al on November 29, 2003, 01:03:50 PM
On my playback id love to find a really nice pre-amp to bring the phono signal up to line level so i dont have to rely on the denon reciever to be the pre amp.  Any ideas?

you can easily spend thousands on phono preamps. i got a used Musical Fidelity's X-LP for $125 and it sounds great.  MF released an upgrade X-LPS which retails for $300, i think.

If you want to go cheap, get a medium quality receiver from Pioneer or its ilk from the 70s, and you'll get all the other features along with the pre.  Don't get one of those sub-$40.

For $100-$200 there are lots of choices, of which the X-LP is one.

can i tell you, i had a 5803, i know a bit above what most have, and the denon phono pre is actually pretty decent.  just make sure to ground that puppy!
