CD player or DVD player for my stereo?
« on: January 11, 2007, 02:22:39 PM »
I need to get a new CD player for my stereo.

The stereo is not hooked up to my TV, so I wouldn't use the DVD player to watch movies, It would just be for the future ability to listen to DVD-A (as I currently have no dvd-a discs).  Does this sound like a reasonable plan, am I forgetting something, or do you guys have any other suggestions?

love mine.

I have a DV-588A-S (older version similar to the above player), which is a great, low cost universal player as well. Lots of people use the Pioneer Elite 45 too.

Kind of in the same boat. I'm looking at a Marantz cd-5001. Only plays CD's, no DVD's. Then I'll probably add a Squeezebox to handle other audio formats.  You'll get get a better quality CD player for the money rather than spending the same amount on a universal player.

I have a universal player (Denon 2910) but its really onloy a matter of money.  Ultimately I'd like to have a separate player for sacd and redbook cds and a universal for dvd-a.  That being said I'm happy with 2910 for all formats.  If I knew it was going to be the only player I was ever going to own I probably would hav e a bought a nicer unit that handled redbook a little better for for the moeny its hard to beat its performance.
