M/S comparison
« on: July 27, 2008, 09:42:15 PM »
***this is not a scientific comparison and wasn't ever intended to be***

I ran two M/S rigs for Mickey Hart Band for comparison's sake. Not exactly scientific but close enough for me. The biggest variable would seem to be the different flavors of mods on the Busman R4 pres.

ADK TL + Peluso cemc6 card > vintage mod pres

AT 4050 + Peluso cemc6 card > transparent mod pres

Both LD mics were cabled with AM Xstreams
Both SD mics were cabled with milspec silverclad

Both files were recorded to stereo > imported to Audacity (split, copy/invert side, mix mid+6dB, side +9dB)...blah blah blah

So what do you think?

i preferred the TL version, but I'm baised :P.  the mids seemed a bit tighter to me than the 4050 version.  Not a HUGE diff between the 2 though.  could just be a diff in the shape of the fig8 patterns of the 2 mics.

Couldn't hear much of a difference. Thought they both sounded pretty nice.

Now I want the rest of the gig and I'm looking for 'fire'.   8)
