Topic: What configurations would be best?

Hi everyone.

I was thinking of picking up a Sure Vert Bar, and I run a set of Superlux CM-H8K (I know, not the best. But I like em')... and was wondering what would be the best configuration(s) or your favorite configuration?

Any suggestions?

Just wanted to try something different. I have the T-Bar that came with my mics, but it also has some limitations.

i always use xy config unless really close to the source.  ortf is a consideration and may sound good with your mics.

If your mounts break down at 90degrees, it can open up options for configurations.  Don't forget too that the vert bar can be disassembled and one or both of the barrels inverted to give you vertical spacing options.

I've never had a single problem running any config with the Shure Vert Bar.  Even with AT8410's and full AKG bodies I was never prevented from running the config of my choice.  That's the beauty of the Vert Bar. 

So i'm not really understanding where it can be 'difficult'.   As far as vertical distance between caps there are no problems.  If you meant to say horizontal distance between caps then there again no problems.

Try your configs at home first.   I put small pieces of tape on both halves of the vert bar to mark where each config needed to be set.   Which particular config you run is wholly dependent on several factors such as venue, distance to stage, etc.

What I can't see real clearly is the m/s technique. To do that using this bar, do you just space the mounts at opposite ends and align them straight up?

There's no way they used the vert bar for that M-S pic.

I encourage you to go tape something you don't really care about, and run:
- 1 song at XY
- 1 song at DIN
- 1 song at ORTF
etc, etc. 

Then go home, and listen to those songs in the car, in the living room, on your iRiver, whatever.  I expect you will walk away with opinions on what YOU find pleasing to your ears.

I spend a lot of time listening with earbuds and an H120 so I generally choose the pattern that I like in that setting.  As long as it doesn't sound terrible in the house and car, I'm happy.  Other people have an audiophile grade system in the living room and want to optimize the taping for that playback.  There are no right or wrong answers, just opinions.
