Topic: Which Clamps To Use?

Picked up a set of shock mounts for the 170's.  The Shure A57 obviously doesn't cut it any more (and I don't want to modify it). 

What clamps are y'all using.  Heavy duty preferred.

Rick - is this for clamping your 170s to your own stand?  If so, the SuperClamp is not a great way to go - they're awfully big and heavy.  The Windtech you listed works great for my 414s + shockmounts.  The ability to switch orientation of the 5/8" male thread is very useful, IME.  I've also had good results with the Pedco UltraClamp - it's even more flexible than the Windtech, though not as robust in build quality.  In both cases, I often use the clamps to run my mics in a vertical coincident config - one clamp at the very top of the stand for the top mic, then another one farther down for the bottom mic.  Don't use my Shure bar much anymore as a result.

As mentioned before, got the shock mounts for the 170's, primarily to do up/down coincident for M/S/Blum/XY configs.  Makes for a lower profile, plus the shocks further isolate from "stand jiggling".

Looks like the SuperClamp and extension is the way to go...

Didn't see your intended usage mentioned anywhere, hence my question.  FWIW, I've used the SuperClamp + extension arm before and while robust, it's BIG and HEAVY.  The Windtech is bulletproof / robust and much smaller and more manageable, IMO.

I like this clamp, by Manfrotto. The mini clamp.
Its as badass as its bigger cousin, the superclamp, but slightly smaller, and lighter.

I have a couple of those, and due to the "thinness" of the metal, the load of the 170's and shocks really rock when the stand gets hit.

Rock solid is the key - ordered a pair of Superclamps with extensions from Frank @ Cascade.  Will drop-ship from Bogen, next day air on Monday.
