the answer is yes but to have the option to run higher SPL, either get the low sens mod by SP or just buy the cheaper CA mics from chris (similar quality though). for your use, you don't need the ATs and even if you started taping bands, etc. the CA mics are pretty comparable to the AT853's in quality (from what i have seen written). as long as you get the low sens mod AT853s which will be more money (CA mics are standard with it), you can run mic in, low gain and the plug in power will be more than adequate for soft and even loud/super loud, you might need to run the mic gain on high if the sounds are very soft but the noise shouldn't be to bad....i know for a fact that folks have run mic in, plug in power with the low sens mod or CA mic with no distortion/brickwalling.
good luck. if you will only be doing voice recording, not sure you need the AT853's they are pretty big...SP has cheaper mics that would work just as well and be much better than internals....CA is doing an internal mic mod to R9, check there is a thread in the retail section....
