Thoughts/Experiences Spilting Subcards.
« on: May 20, 2011, 05:01:36 PM »
I run Peluso CK 21s. I was thinking about spliting them maybe 24-36". I usually run NOS and it sounds titties! Anyone ever tried this with subcards?

Point 'em straight ahead (parallel) and treat them like omnis.  It can be a great way to go in the right scenario!  It gives you some advantageous forward preference while retaining the nice, open spaced-omni sound.

I run sub cards whenever I am in a great sounding area....I haven't used my cards in a long time.....split them usually about a foot or more with a slight turn to the stacks.....sounds awsome....

I have split Peluso subcards from 3-6 feet with good results. Larger than that (I have tried up to 12 feet) provided a messed up sound stage since I was recording from quite a distance. If you spread them wide across a stage you'd probably be okay but I would stick to 3 feet or so depending on how far I was away from the sound source.

I split subs all the time, usually onstage/stage lip but i usually run a pair of center cards in addition.  I agree with Roger that 3-6 feet is a good spread.

if you are going to split them then make sure they are pointed forward. based on the principles of A/B, I don't split more than 50CM from the taperssection which is why I designed my A/B mount with spacings at 37, 43, and 50cm.

if you are onstage, you can get away with more spacing. just a couple of weeks ago I split 42" and pointed at 90 degrees (like NOS) and it smoked
