I'm not certain if you're talking about whether to turn on plug in power but your mics are going to need some kind of power.

I'd have plugged the CAFS mic-in, low, 67/100.
Edit: and maybe stood a little further away from the speakers than what I'd usually do with a battery box.

I'm interested in knowing what you finally did. How did you set your tascam up? How did the result turn out?

Thanks

Fandelive, there is no need for special setup for the recorder. Adjust the levels as usual.  When the mic's power voltage is too low, the source of clipping is in the microphone electronics (FET). Then it doesn't matter how conservatively you set the gain in the recorder - the recorder can records at low level but still the clipping will be there.

Thanks for adding technical information.
I think CA-14's have a built-in 4.7k mod which would have probably saved the mics from being overloaded.
Don't know about the CAFS.

I don't know about CAFS too. But one thing is certain. At low power voltage, it does not matter if the microphone has 4.7 mod. Even little loud music overloads microphone electronic at low power and clipping will appear . Probably there will be further distortion, but I do not know these details.
