I love new old stock
« on: September 27, 2010, 04:56:55 PM »
I have been looking for this mic for over a decade.  I would have been happy with a not too beaten-up used one, but i found this new old stock!  It is a Realistic 33-1085 back electret-condenser stereo mic.  The capsules rotate so it can be run horizontal or vertical, powered by a single AA or two 6v r544 batteries for wider dynamic range and high SPL environments.  My friend had one in college, and i was able to borrow it now and then.  It sounded good with a D5, and could be stealthed with little effort.  He made some listenable tapes of the 83 Hartford shows and a few Jerry Band.  I can't wait to use it!

I had one of those I bought at a yard sale (not our yard sale... one along side the road) for about $10, in good shape.  I thought it sounded OK at the time.

I used to record my friend's bar band.  That mic > Technics living room cassette deck, and eventually I went digital.... that mic > same cassette deck > line in to a computer sound card.

Got one too!

I think I have every Realistic Stereo Mic.

I also have the coveted aluminum Realistic Stereo Mic Bar...I've only ever seen one of these...nice piece.

A lot of analog era tapers got started with the RS stuff...
