External Battery pack for ART Phantom II???
« on: May 26, 2006, 01:01:18 PM »
Hey there...does anyone know if there is an option to do this?  I have no real working knowledge of voltages, etc., so I thought I would ask here.

The ART Phantom II has a 12v DC plug for an external source to be plugged in....so would you have to use a 12v Ni-mh for instance...or could you use the 9.6v Li-Ion packs that seem to be so popular?

Anyone done this or have any idea how it would be done?

Thanks!

If I were to buy one of the batteries that I posted in my last post...would i have to get an adaptaplug or something similar to attach to the ART Phantom II?

Apparrently the 12v Li-Ion battery has 4.5 amp (4500maH)

I've been able to record 6 or 7 shows per pair of 9v's with my phantom II.  That would equate to a run time of at least 15 hours.  Haven't ever thought about needing to power it with an external pack, so I can't help you out there.  I would assume that the jack would require a 12v external source, but you know what assuming can do.  Maybe someone here can help you out, but it seems most people here use a denecke brand phantom source and consider the phantom II as 'generic'   ::)
Good luck.

Yeah I was debating between the denecke and the Phantom II but the price of the denecke is pushing me toward the ART system.  I also heard that denecke has a lot of power draw and they run out of juice faily fast.

i am planning on running a pair of studio projects C4's > ART Phantom II > Sony PCM-M1.

Any idea how much draw the c4s have?

My mics are the AT853's mounted on goosenecks, FWIW.  Don't know how much draw the C4's have compared to the 853's, but I definitely think the art box would power them for a good while (i.e several shows at least).  I've been very pleased with the art product, and the price was definitely better.  Phantom power is phantom power from all I've read / been told.  Also, having a battery per channel seems like a better design in my mind anyway.  Think of the denecke as levis and the art phantom II as wranglers.  You are paying the extra $ for the name, IMO.  I have a small rat-shack battery tester that I check my 9v's with before each show (I stopped leaving the bats in the art box after accidentally turning the switch on prior to storage one time) for peace of mind.  I would run the C4's with the art box for at least one full show without worry, and then check the batteries with a tester to see if you notice a significant drain.
