Windscreens for Busman BSC2 Actives?
« on: August 29, 2014, 01:20:22 PM »
Anyone have any windscreen recommendations for these? It's about time I updates my stock windscreens and wondering what will fit.

Are they a standard ~19mm diameter?

I've been using DPA UA0896 screens as my standard screens indoors with AKG and Schoeps mics and sometimes outdoors as well but Shure WS81's are still first choice if wind is a risk at all.

At $20 a piece they're unusually inexpensive for a DPA item and well worth it in my opinion.

I also run the DPA screens, they'll stretch a bit as well, I've run them on my AKG's & now on my Telefunkens which I believe are 20 or 21mm.
I know you like, tape for people's approval and stuff, and wave your tapes around like they're your dick...  but even you can't actually think section tapes from philips sound good.

If you are going to be using them outdoors, the BAS (BigAssShures aka A81WS) offer much better protection than the DPA UA0896. Ran two sets of Beyers outdoors once, one with the BASes, the other with the DPAs. Wind over 15 was noticeable on the DPA recording but no wind heard on the BAS recording until gusting over 25 or so. Note: wind speeds are guestimates but I've been in windy joklahoma long enough to have a pretty good idea of wind speeds.

One other option is the Rycote Softie. Haven't done a comparison with the BAS yet but should have an opportunity to do a direct comparison this coming Sunday.
