Windscreens for actives
« on: June 01, 2005, 04:36:24 PM »
What does everyone use as windscreens for their Neumann/Schoeps active caps? I've still got my (big) DPA windscreens I used with MBHOs but am wondering if I need to sell them now? They fit nicely around the KM140 bodies (w/cap attached) but they practically cover the entire mic, leaving no room to place in the shock mount!

I use Schoeps B5 windscreens (http://www.schoeps.de/E-2004/windscreens-foam.html) indoors, and the big Shures outdoors.

I've got a pair of the DPAs as well, but they don't seem to be getting much use. They're overkill for indoors, but not big enough for strong wind. I guess they might be okay for a light wind day...

Anyway, for indoor use I'd use the stock Neumann/Schoeps screens.
Right now nothing...in the past: Schoeps CMC6, AKG 480, AKG 460, AKG 414, MBHO 603a, Neumann KM100, ADK TL>Schoeps MK4, Schoeps MK2, Schoeps MK41, AKG ck61, AKG ck62, AKG ck63, Neumann AK40, Neumann AK50, MBHO ka200>Lunatec V2, Lunatec V3, Apogee Mini-Me, Oade M148, Oade M248, Sound Devices MP2, Sonosax SXM2>Sony (mod)SBM1, Apogee AD500>D7, D8, D100, M1, R1, R4, R09, iRiver HP120, Microtrack

They [DPA w/s] fit nicely around the KM140 bodies (w/cap attached) but they practically cover the entire mic, leaving no room to place in the shock mount!

Just slide 'em on as far as they'll go - they won't go completely on, but you don't want 'em to, either, you want to maintain an air pocket between the ends of the mics and end of the windscreen slot.  I've used a small set similar to the B5 and the DPA UA0896 indoors, and the Shure A81WS outdoors.

Thanks for the info, guys, I'll dig up my DPA windscreens tonight and see how they fit on the actives (I never use the windscreens indoors).
