Title: "once in a lifetime speakers"
Post by: Nick's Picks on November 20, 2014, 08:37:26 AM
I'm moving in the spring...and will be downsizing.
I'll post this in the yard sale too, but I wanted it here as well.

I've got a pair of Tyler Audio "Taylo Reference system II" speakers.   There are only 12 pairs of these in existence, according to Tyler himself.   I've discussed these speakers with him a lot over the years....and they have risen to "king of Nick's Stereo" as they have remained in my signal chain for longer than any other piece of gear I've owned

You can not find info on-line about these.   Even a simple picture is hard to find.
These are handsome, BIG and HEAVY...full range line-array style speakers.   Monitor module sits on top of the bass module which has 4 drivers by itself.   Two mounted internally, and two mounted externally.   They go very low...well down into the 25hz range...they are FAST...and they are refined.  No bloated bass....in fact, I thought they were a tad lean at first, but then discovered that they were just extremely polite in their presentation.   Believe me, when called upon, the bass response can rattle every window in my house (see Shakedown Street from 6-30-85 for example).

I traded these for a pair of Magnepan 3.5R's years ago.   They have been driven with all sorts of gear.   They are reveling of upstream components...and you can really hear when you swap things around.

Can't ship them.   They are about 150lbs per side.
I'll help get the to you anywhere in New England though.....
I'll let them go for what I think is a STEAL at $1300 for the pair.  Including silver jumpers to run them (they are setup for bi-amp config and have all sorts of speaker mounts).

I am willing to entertain a trade for some high-end bookshelves ....cash appropriate w/the trade if needed to be of equal value.

These are "once in a lifetime" speakers.    If I had the room for them in my new pad, I'd keep them for as long as I'm able to listen to music.   yea, they do it that well.

YOU ARE NUTS FOR GETTING RID OF THESE!!!!!!!  STOP AND THINK!!!!!!  :o

Think (think) think (think) think (think)
Think (think) think (think) think (think)

You better think (think) think about what you're trying to do to me
Yeah, think (think, think), let your mind go, let yourself be free

Let's go back, let's go back, let's go way on way back when
I didn't even know you, you couldn't have been too much more than ten. (just a child)
I ain't no psychiatrist, I ain't no doctor with degrees
It don't take too much high IQ's to see what you're doing to me

You better think (think) think about what you're trying to do to me
Yeah, think (think, think), let your mind go, let yourself be free

Oh freedom (freedom), freedom (freedom), freedom, yeah freedom
Freedom (freedom), freedom (freedom), freedom, ooh freedom

There ain't nothing you could ask I could answer you but I won't (I won't)
I was gonna change, but I'm not, if you keep doing things I don't

You better think (think) think about what you're trying to do to me
Yeah, think (think, think), let your mind go, let yourself be free

People walking around everyday, playing games, taking scores
Trying to make other people lose their minds.
Well be careful, you're gonna lose yours.

Yeah, think (think) think about what you're trying to do to me
Yeah, think (think, think), let your mind go, let yourself be free

You need me (need me) and I need you (don't you know)
Without each other there ain't nothing we can do

Oh freedom (freedom), freedom (freedom), freedom, yeah freedom
Freedom (freedom), freedom (freedom), freedom, ooh freedom

There ain't nothing you could ask I could answer you but I won't (I won't)
I was gonna change, but I'm not, if you're doing things I don't

You better think (think) think about what you're trying to do to me
Yeah, think (think, think), let your mind go, let yourself be free

You need me (need me) and I need you (don't you know)
Without each other there ain't nothing we can do

(Think about - ah me, think about - ah me,
Think about - ah me, think about it)
(Think about - ah me, think about - ah me,
Think about - ah me, think about it)
(Think about - ah me, think about - ah me,
Think about - ah me, think about it)
(Think about - ah me, think about - ah me,
Think about - ah me, think about it)
You had better stop and think before you think, think!

If I lived closer I'd volunteer my living room for you to store them in.

Wow.

The design, which Wilson Audio also adopted, makes so much sense.  Monitor imaging/soundstaging and bass module for the heat.  That is a crazy-ass price, and I too would snag 'em if I still lived in New England.

Good luck.

off topic I go,…
**Nick, I tried replying to your PM from yesterday, but my reply keeps getting rejected.  I'll try again in a bit.

back to topic,...

Nice speakers

Keep 'em Nick!

If you have to do it to get them to fit in your new digs, consider using the mid/tweet modules like bookshelf speakers and place the bass modules off in the corners under end tables or something.
