Anyone know of a small, pre-fab x/y mount that'll accomodate a pair of MK4 caps? I currently use a small vark bar for x/y, but would really prefer a mount similar to the Schoeps/NOLA BARs ORTF, Wide-ORTF, etc mounts. I know Neumann & DPA make x/y mounts for their respective capsules, but I'm pretty sure those units won't work w/ Schoeps caps...
TIA

schoeps made one; the UMSC (http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=150325.msg1913408#msg1913408), but unless the photos are deceiving, it's designed for use without windscreens or atleast specialized windscreens.

The Vark is prob the easiest way to do XY w/ Schoeps

Can you show me some pictures?
I'm currently mired in the "research & development" part of the next to impossible Schoeps XY mounting solution, and short of building my own UMSC, I'm in a pickle.
Thanks!

Hey JB... I'll take some pics of the Vark and a Grace Spacebar with XY mounted Schoeps later tonight. The Vark is something everyone should have in their gear bag.

Well I tried... but completely forgot I no longer own SGC clips! XY with the Rycote INV-7s was mostly possible, but didn't look great. No way to do it with those mounts and not have the lyres touch.
I got some good pictures though that I"ll probably still post.

I can snap pics of XY w/ a Vark Bar and oktava or SGC Mounts. What do yinz want?

i want to make a set of schoeps caps do this in as stable a manner as possible:

Are not the Schoeps and DPA capsules the same diameter?
If so, you could use the DPA mount pictured for the Schoeps.

DPA 19mm
Schoeps 20mm

I use this lil' guy, though the price seems to have increased considerably since I bought mine in 2004 :o:

OW!
$305 + shipping.
That's a killer.
It may be time to start building my own!

Get a normal t bar. I assume you have mic clips so....
Get a riser and thread adapter and done.
I took this when I ran full bodies with mk4 at mmw. That is a normal t-bar and one riser and thread adapter.

I would get two of each and throw them in the bag.
Riser: $3.99

Thread adapter to go from riser to mic clip. $1.95

Or if you have a Vark Bar, they come with a 1" riser, and its VERY SIMPLE to do with the Vark Bar ;) Thats your cheapest and best route for sure!
-
I've got a VARK bar and don't care for it. I do like the riser though!
Not sure why Schoeps doesn't offer a pre-fab x/y mount for capsules, a la Neumann and DPA. That could be another $150 dollar mount Schoeps adds to their arsenal! :-\

They favor XY side by side instead of vertical coincident setups. Their 4V-XY setup is done this way and they say it's good enough.

Absolutely not cheaper than what I was suggesting. The vark is almost 3x as much. My set-up is a whopping $26. A VARK BAR IS $70
The t-bar is longer too, which is a plus, but it doesn't say Vark. :P
T-bar $20

Because Schoeps and myself, FUCKING HATE XY w/ SDC. Now LDC's are a whole nother situation. Cant wait to run my BSCS-L XY in da sweet sopot!

Here are a few pics of the Vark Bar w/ Schoeps capsules in XY yinz have wanted :)

first off, check this out--- wsr xy LU by schoeps. second, didnt know the vark bar was up too 70 bucks. always thought they were 40-45 bucks for the longest time. when using the vark bar, u dont need a riser for xy, and its just big enough for ortf and din/DINa, without weighting a ton. it will cost u a buck though depending on what mount u use to hold your caps, and there is deff a couple diff options/opinions on what to use.
now the DPA xy set up is slick, and the xy/ortf mount is even slicker. something like those mounts should be made by schoeps. ed
-
I have the Vark bar and don't like it. $700 for that thing? Even Schoeps would be ashamed of that price.... :-\
I used the DPA xy/ortf mount almost exlusively when I had a pair of 4022's. I liked that the mount was small - and that it gave you the option of running 2 diff. configurations. However, I found it those small rubbber pieces that hold the capsules to be a real PITA. I guess I'm gotten spoiled mating the Schoeps/NOLA mounts w/ Schoeps caps & active cables. It really doesn't get any easier than those....
-
$70 bucks Paul. Which is why I put up my suggestion that is $26 bones. Cheaper and is the same.
It's reliable and puts one mic above another for various set-ups. No need for the vark unless you get worried about adapters.
IMO tapers should always have thread adapters in the bag. They are inexpensive and can save the day, if not for you, then for
another taper who isn't prepared.

Thank you!
Hm.
I think I may have to go the way newplanet7 suggested.
All of this makes my head hurt.
I'm going to go back and look at some clamping pictures.
;-)
unfortunately, the show I was going to catch this weekend is not going to let me clamp from the rail and insists I use a mic stand.
and guess what?
i don't have a mic stand!
Now where do I find an affordable 8'-10" mic stand on short notice in Salt Lake City?
razza frazza two things....
