Wireless network transfer
« on: March 24, 2013, 04:27:17 PM »
Well I am asking human's since my search engine skills have failed me. Who knows there may not be such a device. I am looking for something to transfer an Audio signal from a computer in one room to old Stereo system, yes a simple left and right RCA input. Squeezebox seems to be off the market (why?). Is there something reasonably priced? I currently had an old computer performing this function and the monitor crapped out, so I need to do something. Something smaller and more elegant would be nicer. Well you humans get the picture. Thanks

Apple Airports can do it if you're OK with the stream being 16-bit...

Can it play flacs which would fine since I make them anyway? I guess I need an Express and Extreme or can I do it with just the express? Thank You.

Yes, you can stream FLACs assuming you have the latest Mac OS, because you just set the output of your computer sound to go through the Airport.  The Express is the unit that can stream audio; oddly the Extreme cannot.

If you do not have the latest Mac OS you can still do it (also can do it in Windows), you just need this inexpensive program called AirFoil:  http://rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/mac/

Thank You. It actually looks like what I want. I do need Airfoil for Windows since I am not interested is switching OS's or hardware. 25 bucks is cool. This looks great. Thank You.
