+t all around guys. Im def. looking for more than 3 hrs. time. FanOf TheMule Id love to know what your $60 solution is and how long you get. Also, the 12v SLA, how long do you get out of it? will it be able to power the JB3 right out of the box???

How about killing 2 birds with one stone? I know you were looking for something to power the AD20 as well a little bit ago. If the AD20 takes a 9V DC then you should be looking for someone to make you a "Juicebox." I think Nick's Picks posted that he is able to make them, I may be wrong though. Todd R. of Segue Enterprises (no longer making these) made me a Juicebox to power both my UA-5 (9V) and my JB3 (5V) from a single 9V lion battery. It will run both devices for around 5 hours. It has a 7-14V Input, a Pass-thru Output, and also a 5V DC Output.

I used to run the same rig you've got ( PS-2 > AD-20 > JB3) and powered it all with 9.6 volt RC batteries - something along the lines of these - http://www.batteryspace.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=273.

Powering the PS-2 and AD-20 from these batteries is trivial as they can be powered by the 9.6 volt batteries directly.  Powering the JB3 is a little trickier but still quite easy.  You'll need a voltage adapter.  You can use an adapter made to run off of 12volts since these batteries are still more than the 5 volts the adapter is putting out.  Creative makes car adapters that work well.  You can also buy one from Radio Shack that is switchable and works when set to put out 4.5 volts.  You'll want an adaptaplug B on it, tip (+) ring (-).

If you've got basic soldering skills rigging up something that will connect the battery to a couple of 1/8" plugs for the AD-20 and PS-2 as well as the voltage adapter and a plug for the JB3 is pretty easy.  If you don't feel comfortable with a soldering iron I can make one up for you but I won't be able to get to it for a couple of weeks.

I just realized that I made you a cable to power the AD-20 and PS-2 from 9.6 volt batteries a while ago.  Send me back that cable and I'll add a segment to it to power your JB3 too.  The parts for a voltage regulator shouldn't cost much.  If you're interested, let me know and I'll figure out what it will cost.

the trick with the PP 99 is too use it between sets.  the external can make the jb3 freeze up. (hasnt happened to me but PBum and Trego have told me about it)  so i only use mine between sets for charging purposes.  it add hours to my jb3 battery life. (given that the setbreak is longer than 15 minutes)  Considering the PP 99 is only $20 i think its a good deal...

I guess that I should have mentioned that I do have one internal battery as well as the PP99.  I have been using the PP99 regularly for at least two years and have NEVER had a lock up and I use it for power and not to recharge between sets as chrisdavis mentions.  That sounds pretty foolproof though.

Good tips here....just logged on to look for an external solution for the JB3. The two internal batteries I have are over 3yrs old with hundred and hundreds of hours on them...they just don't seem to hold a charge as long these days, about 3 hours or so, only.

Been using the 9.6V RC car batteries for two years now with the AD20 and PS2. Has worked flawlessly. Learned how to solder on this project too

So....I think I'm headed out to rat shack right now to get the volt adapter, B plug and a new batt.

I've used the first one to power a JB3 in the past.  You'll want to set it for 4.5 volts.

I found several sources for the Digital Concepts PP99 Power Pack for the JB3 on Amazon, $12 plus $4 shipping. Can't beat that with a stick. The price at the top is $47 but look under the other available ones.

I have used a PP99 for my JB3 for a long time now and keep a new spare close at hand, just in case.  I am considering picking up another one to power an R-44 and hacking a power cable on a third to power my V3.  You just have to love multi-voltage baterries!

How many hours do you get out of it? Do you run with no batteries in, charged batteries in, or use it to charge between sets? I was considering the Wallyworld adapter route, but I really wanted to keep both of those for my UA-5 in festy situations.

I have only used it for the JB3 at this point and I use it in conjunction with a single charged internal battery "just in case".  When the PP99 was brand new I was getting about 5-6 hours, but it likely less than that now.  It is hard to say since I never record more than a single show at a time and those never really go over 3 or 4 hours.

not sure if it has been mentioned, I admit I did not read the whole thread.  But I had great luck powering my JB3 with a power runner battery from battery source.
