Title: Mac "usb audio codec demo" ?
Post by: AHappyHourHero on April 27, 2011, 06:48:56 AM
When I plug in a USB Dual Pre via USB to my intel MacBookPro, it apears as "USB audio codec demo".  This "demo" puts a beep into the recording every 20 sec's or so, and also allows for only minimal manipulation in midi set-up.  Forums online point towards removing the USB "driver" in /library/extensions or in /library/audio, however, I do not find any files that match this in these ares.  I have also combed through the system files, and have found nothing.
The manufacturer does not distribute software for a Mac "driver" as it is not needed.  I think at one point I may have updated the ASIO, causing the issue, but even searching my drive for files installed by date does not show anything.

I thought i would ask the guru's here for input and experience.  The Dual Pre is not a primary input, and is merely being used for flexibility within an aggregate device, but the "demo" tag prevents it from being included in aggregate device set-up.

Next step is OS reinstall...

Thanks in advance

not entirely sure but it sounds like you need to register something or enter a serial number or code to get  out of the "demo" mode.
others may hve firdt hand experience
you may want to cross post on the mac team board http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=143607.120 (http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=143607.120)

are you using a usb hub? did you try a different port?

both ports, same results.  there is no unregistered or trial software in use.  from all forums that i have screened, this is a semi-common problem, with a relatively easy solution: remove the "driver" from the /library/extensions or /audio folder, but there is nothing there.  I am almost positive at this point that it will be more time effective to reload the OS, and start fresh.  It gives me an excuse to put a larger HDD in, since I do run a Windows partition for CEP for editing live recordings.  I would not even reload Windows, except I have been using CEP for SO long, I am hesitant to learn something new.  That is another story for another time :)

Thank you for the feedback.  I appreciate it, as always, when I can draw upon the years and years of experience in TS.

did you only look in /Library/Extensions or did you also look in ~/Library/Extensions? (/Users/your user name/Library/Extensions)
