I've never messed with any Schoeps stuff before, but I thought I could have some pretty unique matrix's..ie: 4022's/mk4's

U89 hyper's /mk4's.

I wanted to make sure I snagged the right actives to keep it small and the right mounts. I know all the Neumann stuff is pretty specific also.

For mounting options, Schoeps A20S shockmount ($102) plus...

<1> DIN / DINA Kwonbars ($75/ea) + Schoeps STCg ORTF bar ($132)

or

<2> Vark bar ($49) + Schoeps SGC clips ($20/ea), covers DIN, DINA, XY, ORTF, and variable angles for all

Add in an NOS Kwonbar ($80), if you want that option.

I like <2> because the Vark bar provides flexibility:  I can vary my included angle as circumstances dictate (sometimes wider, sometimes narrower), run XY, etc.

I have a Vark Bar. I was using it with the Neumann mounts, but I went to a verticle bar w/ ther Nuemann clips. I have all the active stuff for my 100 series, but I liked the sound of the 140's as a complete mic, with my silver cables better.

I was thinking for running 4 channel, I could mount the varc or any of the active set-ups in the middle of a longer T-bar.   I have a nice 20 " plus T-Bar for mounting the U89's....that varc would be perfect in the middle.

FWIW, when I've run 4-ch mics, I've preferred one of the mic pairs coincident to help cut down on phasing.  I also found I liked my LDs (414s) coincident with the SDs (Schoeps) near-coincident or split.  Your preferences may vary, just my $0.02.  Have fun!

I would have to agree
unless you're running on stage
or doing a spaced omni  and other array

running 4 mics can just add noise
either by the amount of connections
or by causing weird phasing

unless you plan on running multiple mics on stage
stick with a nice pair in the audience and that will sound awesome

one stereo mic in the sweetspot (in an old church) 
most excellent sound

I did the multi mic mix (up to 6) thinking that each has their own benefits and the sums would be indeed better, bu my experience is that  truly a single pair sound better.

Thanks for that info.  I like to think that two good mics, placed well can do it best.

If you are buying mounts from scratch I would get some Shure A55's. If my A20's break again, I'll replace them with the Shure models. They are cheaper and more durable. I would get some kc5 cables and a pair of shorty xlr interconnects. The stg or stc clips will work well with the vark bar. I would get kwons ortf bar for the mk4 caps.

im using an a20s shock mount, with two sg20 stand clamps, and a homemade spacer (some 20mm pvc rod, drilled and tapped with 3/8 studs in each end.)

I have some different length spacers, so overall you get the low profile of the ortf bar, with the adjustability of the vark bar.

considering i usually run fob, i rarely stick to established patterns like ortf. and this is a very very low profile setup.

I've got a 5' length of pvc if somebody wants a piece
