Bringing Mic stands on the Airplane>>
« on: March 22, 2005, 10:37:45 AM »
Do the airlines allow mic stands on the plane. I am leaving for WSP tommorrow in Atlanta, and have never flown with my gear. Am I allowed to bring my Mic Stand on the Plane, or do I have to pack it in my bag.  ???

I am flying in a day early, so even if They lose my bag, for a day, I'll be okay. It is also a non-stop flight. It would suck to to have all my shit, and no Mic Stand though.  ???

yea you can take them on planes but not as carry ons, you will have to check it like a piece of luggage, reasoning is that the metal poles can be used as a weapon is the excuse I always get, and wrap up the threaded end, they get banged up like hell by the handlers

How about a clamp? Chances are someone will have a mic stand at WSP. Just a hunch...

I just flew with my stand.  Two suggestions.

1--check it.  I bought a 4in OD PVC pipe, cut it to fit, put a cap on one end and a screw fitting on the other.  Sent it along with my other bags.

2--this one is more risky.  Planes have coat closets on them.  Ask that you place your stand in the coat closet.  If they will not let you then you will have to check it with no protection.

enjoy the show

You have to tape from your seat....when your flying in the plane as well.   NSTB doesn't approve of FOB on planes. ;D
