Busman BSC1 Hypers vs. Church Audio CA-14 Cards
« on: October 09, 2008, 02:02:07 AM »
Last Monday night I ran a 4 mic recording for Tesla.  Below is the configuration

Lineage for the Busmans are: Busman BSC1 Hypers > T-Mod R4 @ 24/48
Lineage for the Church Audio are: Church Audio CA-14 Cards > 9100 (unity) > T-Mod R4 @ 24/48

Here are a samples from each set of mics.

Which to do like better?  why?  Can you figure out which is which?

My guess is Milwaukee 2 are the Busmans and Milwaukee 1 is the Church cards.  I like Milwaukee 2 better.

...and the CA-14's are on sale now for only $109 versus the Busmans.  Not knocking the Busmans as I own a set, but just shows what a value Chris Church is offering.

Apples and Oranges, but both great values. The CAs and stealthy and the Busmans offer caps. Samples are close I like 2 a bit more and think its the Busman.

I personally like sample #2 even before I found out what mic was what. I find them to be much warmer sounding. Even though to be fair they all the mics should have been splayed the same way on the bar so that both mics were pointing in the same exact positions.  But other then that # 2 is better but again not by much the acoustic guitar to me sounds a bit warmer and just a bit more accurate. Also to be fair the Bussman mics have different capsule options my mics do not I have only two versions of this mic a omni and a cardioid and you cant use my mics with phantom power. So there are differences besides I do actually think the Yellow is very cool. They are both good mics and very useful for different situations.

Personally, I think the cymbals on sample two are too tinny starting at 2:18.
Not a huge difference on the rest surprisingly because one is hypers and the other is cards.

If I still have the mics in November.  I'll run both for Mule.  Need to figure out how to set up the Church Audio cards to the Busman mic mounts.

If I still have the mics in November.  I'll run both for Mule.  Need to figure out how to set up the Church Audio cards to the Busman mic mounts.

Mako

1.  Undo the elastic on the bottom and one of the upper "hooks".
2.  Slide the CA14 through the clip like you usually would...  except slide it all the way through.  The cable should now be sitting on the clip.
3.  Bring the cable through the area's that you removed the elastic from the hooks, so now the mics are underneath the clip.
4.  Re-hook the elastic's back in place.
5.  Do the same for the other mount.
6.  Pull the cables taught and velcro them to your stand.  This will keep em in place.
7.  Make sure that if you run both pairs of mics, that you have em correctly placed.  Left with left.  Right with right.

OR...

You can probably put the end of the mic/cable into the "lock" that is on the mounts...  the "switch" that locks your cables down.

I have done both, and both ways seem to work well...  it just might take a little bit of time to figure it out.  I don't have the CA14's anymore, so I can't take a pic...  I could try and show an example if needed.

edit:  come to think of it, I have a sample of BSC1-K1(cards) vs. CA14cards that I'll post.
