I'm looking to buy a portable recorder for recording clean electric guitar (using a DI box to give a line level signal). Sound quality (low noise and good AD converters) is a high priority. I also prefer an interface which leans more towards analogue gear than menu-driven and touch screen based gear.
I think I've considered just about every recorder on the market!
I'm currently contemplating a Marantz PM561 (with or without an Oade mod). It's quite large, but it looks easy to use. I'm just not sure if the sound quality is top notch.
I know it's a different type of device, but the Sound Devices MixPre 3M is also under consideration. In the standard 2-track recorders I've also thought about the Sony PCM-D100 etc. etc...
I'd appreciate some pointers!
