I am getting a new laptop and was wondering how i go about making sure that it has an optical in.... is this something i most likely will have to get after the fact or can i talk to the computer company (i was thinking a Dell due their great warrenty) and tell them i want one?? Just not really sure on any of this as i am fairly new to all this so any help would be great!!

You probably won't find a laptop with an optical in. Since you're looking for something with an optical in I'm guessing you already have an ADC? If not, I'd suggest getting a pre/adc that has a firewire port on the back and using that...

yeah i already have a Ua-5..... it has optical, coaxial, and USB out. wouls it be all right to hook it up throiuhg the USb to record through that or is that a no no???
yeah i saw the new powerbooks but im not a mac kinda guy... ;D
