Please help with System Error
« on: April 07, 2008, 11:02:10 PM »
Every time I connect to the internet and click to another page I get the following error message:

System Error!

Your system was infected by dangerous trojan.
Note: Your critical files can be lost!

Click OK to download the antimalware application to clean your system! (Recommended)

Sounds bogus to me, like an English as a second language person wrote the error message.

I ran AdAware and Spybot and get the following that keep showing up.

Microsoft.Windows.Security.InternetExplorer
Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter_disabled
Win32.Agent.gvu

Please help me as what to do to fix this.
AKG SE300b (CK91/CK93) or SP-LSD2 > Busman Transparency mod Tascam HD-P2

Sounds like a spyware problem and the anti virus software antimalware wants you to buy there gear. If you don't have spysweeper or other spyware installed go to tucows.com and try out some freeware stuff to fix this. First I would delete cookies and any other trace you can find from this company on your pc and then use a good spyware program. I happen to try spysweeper and liked it so I know it works good w/ XP on my pc but after I got a new pc w/ vista I never got spysweeper again. Good luck.

Microsoft.Windows.Security.InternetExplorer
Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter_disabled
Win32.Agent.gvu

Google those exact terms. I did for the last one and got several good returns. Looks like you got infected and it may take some time for you to get rid of the bug(s).  Good luck.

And the following error:

Windows Internet Explorer

Your PC still infected with spyware!
Return to www.IEDefender.com and download spyware removal tool!

Seems bunk to me, bastards. Help me!

Have you tried Firefox or another browser. Internet Explorer is evil (although IE7 isn't too bad).

Absolutely DO NOT give this company a single penny. Worse comes to worse, you backup your important files and re-install Windows (I don't think you will have to re-install though).

Make sure you have UP TO DATE Anti-Virus on your computer (AVG FREE is good and obviously, free).

And, don't download "free" software unless it's common (Firefox for example), or from a large company. You probably got the problem from some sort of "free" software.

Would a re-install od Windows take care of everything? If so, how do I do this? Please don't sandbag me, I'm in need of some help and can't figure it out on my own.

Have you tried resetting the comp using a restore point? Try that before reinstalling the OS.

If you can download a different browser (FIrefox or Opera) then go to google and search for the terms. In no instance go, and certainly don't download anything from, the company that keeps popping up on your screen. They are the ones responsible for giving you whatever you've picked up. And whatever they are offerring is almost certainly more nasty shit that won't even get rid of their original crap.

What OS are you using? XP? VIsa? 2K?

Have you booted in safe mode? Still have the problems of the browser hijacker in safe mode?

Do you have access to another computer so you can at least google the terms in your first post?

Hit F8 as your pc is booting into windows to get to Safe Mode, but I would not bother.  Just put in your XP CD and start over by doing a clean install.

Slowly back from a fresh install of Windows XP. Round of +T's to everyone for the help, much appreciated.

Glad your back up.

I have family members that repeatedly get these types of problems...with Norton installed.  I've learned:

- Sometimes it takes several hours to try to clean up by hand and/or by using freeware apps.
- Re-installing the OS, all their apps, and downloading Windows updates takes hours too.

I've settled on using Norton Ghost to take images of their machines while they are pristine.  When something happens I just re-image...short and sweet.
