Title: Unmentioned Powersupply for JB3
Post by: Tyler McGhee on March 11, 2005, 05:40:04 PM
Haven't seen this mentioned around here...but bescor makes a family of batteries
with a cigarette lighter adapter built on...all you have to do
is plug in your JB3 cigarette lighter adaptor into
the battery and walla, ready to go.
there's a few flavors of these...

here's a pic:

you can check out the family here:
http://www.bescor.com/Batteries/12v_shoulder_packs.htm

the prices on that page are a bit higher than you can
find them for elsewhere...do a froogle search
and it'll show all sorts of vendors with better prices.

we have a couple of the battery packs here at work (each belt holds 4 batteries
for our onboard camera lights) and i just tested the JB3 lighter adaptor
and it powered up just fine.... this is perfect for morons such as myself
that don't want to have to rig up anything!  just charge, plug and go!
some of these packs come with a charger as well...
just a heads up!

i am ordering a 12aH battery now!

Did you order the carrying harness w/ it?  j/k

That looks like a perfect solution for the non-DIY crowd.

Nice find! The only problem I have with these is the weight. Maybe 'm a wuse but these 12V are a mother to hall around, especially at festivals, where you really need them. I really think that the Ni-ion universal batteries are the way to go. At less than a pound they (http://www.digital-camera-battery.net/universal-battery.htm#) could be good up to like 6 hours for the JB3 and 31/2 for the V3 - versatile man!

My 2 cents

the weight doesn't bother me at all...i mean if one of these babies can run almost an entire festival,
i'm willing to tote the extra weight.

but I'm a big guy!

looks like you can order them with 4 pin xlr outs too???

edit:

yes you can,

XLR models have 2 outputs: 1 cigarette socket & and 1-4 pin XLR

set up and ready to roll... no mistakes here

I wonder how much run time u would get with the JB3 and UA5 with the 12v.

Using 650 for the JB3 and 450 for the UA5 I would say...(calculating....)...I would say about 9 hours. Correct me if I'm wrong  :P. Again, I think a great way to go if you don't mind the weight.

i have a 12 aH and a 7.2 aH of these Bescors.  I  like that they come with a padded case.  I wish I knew how to sew better so I could make padded cases for my homemade 6v batteries.

Nice system, I saw these in the MarketTek catalog a while ago...  But $100 for a 4pin XLR 12v 7aH battery without charger???  I thought these looked really nice, but damn expensive...

So far I've bought:

1x  12v SLA $20 on ebay
4x 4 pin XLRs - $20 from Marketek
various crap - $10 from Rat Shack.

I've ended up with something very similar for half the price.

But the Bescor system does have the nice carry case...  I wish I could find one of those!!!
