Beyond the 2 GB limit question
« on: June 08, 2008, 10:22:51 PM »
Any help is appreciated..

I know getting around the 2 GB file size limit in Windows is to use .w64 wav file format.  However, the other day I was recording in PCM format from the Sirius radio into Wavelab. I needed to record 9 hours because I couldn't figure out how to start the timer thing in Wavelab record.  I forgot to split the files into ,2GB files.   When I got home there was a file error of course.  The resulting file size saved is 6.3 GB witch would be about right for 9 hours of recording 16 bit/44.4 kHz.  However when I open the file in wave lab or any other program it is 3hr 24 minutes long and the file size is reported as 2.11 GB.  I guess this makes since due to the limits of windows XP wav files.

The question I have is: Is there any data on the original file beyond the 2GB that I can recover?  I've tried to re-mane the file extension to .w64 and .raw and they both load up a 2.11Gb file.  I've also tried Tapers Little helper PAD repair with same results.

Should I delete the 6 GB file or is there some hope?  It's not an important recording.  I was taping the Sirius Broadcast of the JB concert that I went to in Atlanta 6/5. If I can't recover the file I'll just have to keep a look out for the re-play.

Thaks in advance,

-Dany

You could try Gordon Gidluck's great AudioHack tool to split the 6 GB file into smaller chunks.

Wow! AudioHack worked great!  +Ts to you and Gordon  (if I could do that).  A classically brilliant DOS program that does the job well.  Very Sweet... Thanks!
