cheap 12-13 foot stand with threaded post and rotatable?
« on: April 13, 2007, 01:29:43 AM »
I'm look for a good cheap stand.
This one looks nice:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=010&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=200095474227&rd=1&rd=1
But, I am concerned that I won't be able to rotate it after it is flown because of the air-cushioning.
Here's a cheap one without air, but it looks like it only has a post on the end without threading:

Has anyone used either of these?

The 5/8" stud tip isn't a big deal.  Check the TSKB | Archive | Mics & Setup forum for a post on mic stands that includes part numbers for easily adapting this to a the proper thread.

True, but at $14 + shipping, I figure I might at well get a cheap stand with a threaded end to keep it 'cheap'.

check B&H and sort by price.  plenty of excellent $40 stands.

I have this stand and it has worked out great so far.  Has a load rating of 20lbs, so no worries if you are running LD's or having people clamp onto the stand.

No worries about being able to rotate it either, it can still be done.  Only issue, for me anyways, is the size of the footprint, but this stand is mainly used as my outdoor stand where I usually have space to setup and footprint is not an issue.

i have an amvona stand and after using it with my buddies bogen i prefer mine. the clamp stlye binders are easier than the screw knobs. it does not fold down as small but it has not been an issue for me. i paid 40 bucks shipped for mine and its air cushioned. damn thing is sturdy.
