Anyone have a step by step of how to get utorrent to seed a show?? A friend and I tried to get a Chris Robinson Brotherhood show to seed and it didn't seem to work. I can't seem to figure out what is wrong. We even tried to seed the show on his computer, which he has seeded lots of shows before and it never showed up on etree. Any help would be appreciated. TIA
-
I have one in a thread around here.

Thanks man!! I followed your steps and just waiting to see if it shows up on etree (fingers crossed). I think the problem may have been we were crearting the torrent in TLH.

still not showing up >:( On utorrent it keeps saying waiting to log in??? Everything else seems to be in place. Is it possible that my Utorrent settings are messed up?
-
sometimes etree takes a while for the torrent to show up on the tracker. start and stop sometimes helps speed things up. just letting it sit it'll start eventually.
On utorrent it keeps saying waiting to log in
what version are you using? on mine (1.8.8) while waiting it says something like "torrent not authorized on this tracker". you did download the torrent from etree to start seeding right?
-
My version is 2.2.1!! I followed the steps in newplanet post, which is similar to what Stu and I did last night. The only thing I noticed that was different is we created the torrent in Traders Little Helper.
Edit: The torrent is at 100%, but is red not green does that mean anything
-
I use TLH to make my Torrents and have never had an issue...
However, I find that my Torrent take a long time to become visible unless I "update" my Torrent in the Tracker Tab on the bottom of U-Torrent... Hit the tab, right-click on the Tracker and hit Update...

I see the torrent on etree when searching for ones with no seeds. take you take a screen shot of utrorrent and post it? (print screen or snip tool)

that's what I was getting at as well.

This one???
Terry

That is it and I did update the torrent! I'm not sure how to do a screen shot I'll google it and see if I can figure it out.
-
Here are some screen shots! Something has to be wrong it is closing in on an hour and it still isn't showing up on etree and I've updated it a few times.
Edit: I'm positive something is wrong I've seen 3 shows pop up since I have tried to seed mine >:( I'm not sure what I have missed??

Are you firewalled? Have you checked to make sure the port utorrent is set for is open on your router?
Hit Ctrl-G to get to the uTorrent Setup Guide. Hit the run tests button at the bottom to verify if you are or are not firewalled.
-
I haven't checked, but your Ctrl G didn't work it pulled up my favorites?? Any other suggestions??

Don't know why Ctrl-G didn't work. Instead take the long way: Options > Setup Guide
-
Here are some screen shots!
In the second screen shot, in the TRACKERS tab, Right Click on the line where it says"http://tracker.etc" and select "Update".
Also, try making a new Torrent file, and re-ULing it. It could be that your Torrent file has an error/got corrupted...

I need to do the portforwarding!!! My upload port is closed I am only set to download. Anyone have the step by step for this?? Thanks for all the help.
-
go into your router settings usually http://192.168.1.1 then look for apps and games or something similar. put in the IP of your computer and the port utorrent is using.
edit: go here for detailed instructions.
http://portforward.com/

F' it I'm giving up I'm :angry3:. Everyone keep telling me how easy it is to upload to etree and I have worked on this for 2 days with no luck. LMA is way easier.
-
I don't understand why it didn't work last night on my computer. I'll upload mine and see how it does. I haven't had trouble before. ???
-
^^ I have no luck with this and I'm usually pretty good at Forest Gumping my way through computer problems. :spin:
Edit: Stu I don't think it will let you create the torrent since I already have it on etree, I just can't get it to seed.
-
don't give up! what port is set up in utorrent? don't use 6969. use a random port with a high number. even if ports aren't forwarded it should still work. enabling UDnP port mapping (under settings > connection) may do it for you. make sure windows firewall is allowed as well. do you have any other firewall? what antivirus?
-
Port 63090 is what it is set to. I can't seem to get into my router settings to portforward. I'm thinking this is my issue. My virus is Mcfee.

check in the windows firewall to make sure it's allowed there as well. without port-forwarding it should still work just not as fast. example: when we seed from hotels etc we are not forwarded but we still connect just not to as many peers and not as fast sometimes. you still should be able to get into the settings and get it working. did you follow instructions for your exact make/model of router?
-
I have no clue how to mess with the windows fire wall. I couldn't get into my router settings it keep giving me a name a password to get in and I couldn't get logged in.

windows firewall go to start > control panel > windows firewall. then look at manage exceptions or something like that.
if you never changed the router password it should be admin/admin
you can google what they are in case they are different than that. you then need to change them!
-
utorrent is enalbed in windows firewall and I can't get into my routers settings. I know the password, but every name I use for admin doesn't seem to be working.
Edit: I guess I'm going to have to reset my router! :-\

Netgear

looks like netgears addy may be different.
192.168.0.1

netgear usually has default user/pass on the label on the bottom, check there before wiping your settings.

We couldn't get my show working on Stu's computer yesterday either! ???

BTW... a fast way to see if your Torrent is same or different than STU's is to DL Stu's show. If your Seed is the same, it should go to 100% in a minute or so. If there is an issue, it will DL the fix from Stu.
That's assuming you and Stu are trying to seed the same exact Seed, and not two different versions of the same show...
Terry

two different sources

I don't know how to do this? Stu's show is his rig and I was running my own.

just click on the ffp. or load the files into traders little helper, click on analysis, then test encoded audio files.
on torrents that aren't your own are you able to upload?

in utorrent what does it say for tracker status? are you sure you used the correct announce url?
http://tracker.etree.org:6969/announce
-
Edit: I tired of screwing with it today!! I think I'm in need a someone to actually check it out that has more experience with seeds than I do. Maybe I'll try another show tomorrow and see if that makes a difference. :banging head:

Sorry you're still having trouble. If you want to, come by tomorrow with the wav files and we'll start from scratch.

^^ If I have time I might stop by! I am heading to Raliegh aroung 12:00 so it might be tough to squeeze it in.

We can do it when you get back in town.

in utorrent what does it say for tracker status?
in your screen shot I can see it says "an attempt was made....." what is the rest?
just looked at the torrent again and perhaps utorrent or etree or both do not like the length of and spaces in the folder name? that is just a guess.
-
An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permission
That is the message Gordon. Any idea what would remedy this??
-
not off hand but ill look into. gonna be a little while, busy with the baby till 8 or so.
-
I'm not sure if it makes a difference, but I am running windows Vista.
-
was the error the same on stu's computer? have you tried to disable Mcfee and try it? does your Mcfee have a firewall or just antivirus? does the socket error stay the same or does it ever change to something else? are you running peerblock?
my guess is that at stu's y'all just didn't wait long enough for the torrent to show up and on your computer Mcfee is blocking things.
-
also in utorrent do you have encryption enabled? go to settings > bit torrent. needs to be enabled.

"An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permission"
http://www.utorrent.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=20037&p=1
The solution was to open the properties of the uTorrent.exe file and select the "Privilege Level" as "Run this program as an Administrator".

I deleted it and recreated the whole torrent and still no luck!! It had the same message.

so if on your machine the same thing happened then maybe I was correct about the folder names being to long, too many space etc.
oops just looked and the new one is renamed. if it was only on your machine then we were on the right path. but it not working on stu's is just plain strange! again that would lead me to think something is wrong with the files themselves but you said they check out.
even so did you try disabling McAfee and trying without? I read some reports of utorrent not working at all with it's firewall. also try a different version of utorrent. it's not gonna hurt anything ;)
-
oh yea try changing ports in utorrent as well.
-
I'll try shuting down the Mcfee firewall and see if that works.
Edit: From looking at Twatts post it looks like a Vista problem
-
vista home on kellys laptop and utorrent works just fine ;)

disable McAfee! or at least see if you can add utorrent as an exception in it. it's a shitty program anyway ;) if it works after that then permanently uninstall it and get avast free.

I'm late to this party, but here are the steps I've recently learned to use for eTree. Skaggs talked me through my first uploads recently and I wrote it down 'cause otherwise I'd forget. This workflow might not even come close to the issues face by the OP, though. Thought I'd toss it out there and see that ya'll think.
This work flow assumes you've already done your post work and have ended up with 16/44.1 WAV files.
1. Create WAV files for each track at 16/44.1 and place them in a working or archive folder.
You will have to manually re-name the files as below; see etree naming standards http://wiki.etree.org/index.php?page=NamingStandards
SamBushBand2001-06-21t01
SamBushBand2011-06-21t02
Tracks 1-9 need to show as t01, t02, etc, to maintain chronological order
If you are using CDWave to track your files, then before opening the file you should rename it like this, to add the "t" at the end of the file name
so that when CDWave exports your new WAV tracks, they get named by the addition of "01", "02", etc
Psychograss2011-07-30t
then, CDWave makes tracks with file names that look like this: Psychograss2011-07-30t01, etc.
2. Make a TXT file that conforms to the standards of eTree http://wiki.etree.org/index.php?page=SeedingGuidelines
3. Create a sub-folder with just the tracked WAV files and the TXT file and name the folder like the tracks, maybe add the location initials:
SamBushBand2011-06-21TBF (for "telluride bluegrass fest" for example)
This will be your upload directory
4. Open TradersLittleHelper and click FORMAT>Encode WAV Files
Uncheck the box that says "Delete Source Files"
Under Encoding Options, select 8(best)
Check the box that says "Keep Foreign Metadata"
Check the box that says "Align on Sector Boundaries" - the dropdown selection should show "fix"
Check "Save encoded files to source directory"
under "Post Encoding Tasks" check the boxes that say "Test encoded files" and "Create checksum file"; select file type .md5 in the drop down box
Click ADD and select the WAV files in the sub-folder, don't select the TXT file
Make sure files are in order; if not, it's probably a typo in the naming; get files in numerical order, then ADD again
Click ENCODE
5. When FLAC encoding is complete, move WAV files back into parent directory for later use or archiving
Your upload directory now has only the FLAC files and the TXT file
6. In the TLH, after encoding and creating checksums, see the Process Log box, Use the cursor to highlight checksums only,
don't include the text that says "No errors occurred" or any blank spaces
Copy checksums using "CTRL C"
Paste checksums into the bottom of your TXT file for later, don't forget to click FILE > SAVE on the TXT file
Close TLH
7. Open UTorrent
Click FILE > CREATE NEW TORRENT
Click ADD DIRECTORY and browse for your upload directory
Select your upload directory and click OK
In the Trackers box, type this URL: http://tracker.etree.org:6969/announce
Check the box for Start Seeding
Click CREATE AND SAVE AS and save the new torrent to your desktop
CLOSE the Create New torrent box
8. Go to bt.etree.org and log in
Click UPLOAD
In the Upload File box, Browse for and select the torrent file on your desktop
In the Torrent Name box, name it like this: Open Road Reunion, Rocky Grass, 2011-07-30 - at4051b
The next few boxes are left blank and not mandatory
Copy the text from the TXT file, not including the checksums, and paste into the Description Box
Copy the checksums from the TXT file and paste into the Checksums box
Under Artist, choose the artist or scroll down and choose Other
Click Verified to be trade friendly
Click Send email to bittorrent@etree.org to announce torrent?
Click Do it!
9. Go to bt.etree.org HOME and search for your username, checking the box that says "including torrents with no seeders"
Confirm that your torrent is up
10. Check UTorrent for the Red arrow to turn Green when someone starts downloading
Continue checking UTorrent for errors
-
My screenshot utorrent seeding guide above on how to get a seed started is foolproof. Assuming that your ports are forwarded properly
I am thinking it's the netgear router and jmbell not setting up a static ip address.
jmbell, can you try not using the router and just go direct connection?
That would tell us if it's the router.
-
If you want also, give me your net gear model router # found on the back or the bottom
and I can try and go through everything with you with screenshots after I figure it out.
-
Just got back in town so I will see if I can get it running!! I'll try disabling Mcfee and uploading with out using the wireless router and see what happens. If that doesn't work I'll give Stu's computer another shot to at least get the show up. I don't have time today so I'll give it a go tomorrow. Newplanet I might even pm you if I'm still running into trouble on my computer. Thanks for all the help
