thanks for the help but i got fed up with that real quick and decided to just pull that HD out, put it in my main machine and run a dual boot box.  everything is running fine except i can't get the damn ethernet card configured properly to work through our router.

/sbin/ifconfig -a and netstat -r are your friends.


/sbin/ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.10 mask 255.255.255.0
route add default 192.168.1.1

make sure /etc/resolv.conf is cool

nameserver ns1.xxxxxxx.com
nameserver ns2.xxxxxxx.com

other than that i need a little more info

posting via linux redhat 9.0!  thanks fozzy i finally figured out i am a moron and that i have 2 ethernet cards in there and i had the wrong one plugged in.  doh!  good news is i got it to work!  another +T in 12...

yeah firefox is great.  anyone know where i can get drivers for my m-audio sound cards?  i have the delta dio 2496 and revolution rtl 7.1   i found one website but it cost $20-30 just for the drivers.

 I just installed mandrake  10 and this is more of a test post so to speak the install went very smooth no problems now I just have to get everything working,my hd on my sony pcg-k13 died and a replacement 30 gig only cost about 100$ so I decided to try it out.

Hello
 I would also like to see something devoted to linux users  I just installed mandrake 10.0 offical on my sony pcg-k13 (laptop) and the installation was a breeze. Gaim installed aand connected with yahoo no problems, I can burn cds DOA with no problems,everything Ive done so far haas been almost effortless

I'm getting ready to try Fedora Core 3 on my PC.  If it works alright I'm going to turn it into a Freevo box. ;D
