Title: Possibly dead Wal-Mart battery?
Post by: jimmc on March 09, 2006, 10:06:40 AM
One of my Wal-Mart batts has been acting up lately.  Last time I used it, all was fine.  When I checked the meter the other night, the meter was totally blank.  Not even the red light would come on.  I plugged it in to the wall adapter and charged it over night and the light was green, indicating a full charge, but when I plugged it into the UA-5, the UA-5 wouldnt power up.
Is it dead?  Anyone else have this happen and what if anything could I do to fix it before buying another.
Thanks in advance,
Jim

Do you have a VOM?
I'd start by meausring the +/- for voltage.

If there's a short in your power cable it'll trigger an internal fuse inside the battery and won't work again until you connect the charger.  Might be worth checking into.

Thanks. I'll try hooking the charger up again tonight and see what happens.  The battery is about 18months old.  Really hope I dont have to buy another one....

+T all around

Im too thinking this is your prob.  You will find out in a sec as the charger will reset the fuse and the batt will show a charge again.

I hooked it up to the charger and after about 5mins the meter read that it was fully charged.  As soon as I unplugged the charger I pressed the meter button and it read nothing.  Not even the red light.
Looks like its dead.......damn !!!
