Panasonic Lumix DC-ZS200 (edit: mostly about ZS100 though)
« on: March 01, 2019, 10:17:07 AM »
Anyone have this?

The reviews say it's a fairly big upgrade over the ZS100 - to include the ability to 4K clips for up to 45 mins (and Full HD clips for 50 mins), and bit rates top out at 100 Mbps.

One of the reviews listed some video samples, and I noticed the clip suffered the same focus issue that I had when I owned my last Panasonic Lumix cam, which is that it briefly goes out of focus when you zoom in/out.  You can see that in this clip at around the ten second mark:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPbj8dkg0dE

I really want a point-and-shoot that can film in 4K.

I've had this cam for 10 months now. Amazing camera, but worse quality in very low light than the ZS100. Still an amazing upgrade as the zoom has been increased alot. Still sucks that Panasonic crops more in 4k, but at least that gives more zoom and therefore makes the I. Zoom mostly obsolete.
Audio rig:

I've read conflicting reports about the recording length in 4K.  Some say it's 15 minutes, but others say it's longer.

I've read conflicting reports about the recording length in 4K.  Some say it's 15 minutes, but others say it's longer.

The ZS200 is not as good in low light as the ZS100.
There is a very easy hack to get unlimited video from the ZS100. Shoot until the battery dies.
I have hundreds of hours of 90+ minutes single files. It has never overheated or caused an issue.
The only concern now is the less than 2 hour battery life.

Just about every video here for the past 2 years is with Multiple ZS100's - https://www.youtube.com/user/datflys
In the past 6 months I also used GoPro 5 a few times & now use DJI Pocket Osmo for stage use.
It's freaking amazing.  It's small & compact & tracks the performer. - Sample - https://youtu.be/jn3mlQBbU-Y?t=168

Is that the Osmo on a stand next to the stage monitor that's about knee high with Tab?  I assume you go into pro mode and adjust your settings.  What settings did you use (in particular I'm curious about exposure)?  Is any of this footage shot with the ZS100?  Does the ZS100 have any issues with "searching" for a split second and going out of focus when you zoom in or out?  And is the video hack good for unlimited 4K?

That is the osmo on the stand. Yes, Pro Mode.
This footage is shot with 3 ZS100's - 1 Osmo & A Sony 4K (not mine) mounted on a pole.
I set the Osmo ISO at 200 & adjust SS for exposure.

My only issue is trying to get the color to match the ZS100's - The osmo has more natural color capture & the ZS100's colors are more saturated.

I see you're filming in 4K.  So what about the recording limit hack for the ZS100 - are all your ZS100 clips limited to 15 minutes, or were you able to hack the cams to film longer clips in 4K?

A super easy "push a few buttons" hack will give you until your card runs out or your battery dies for the ZS100 all in 4K - One big 70+ GB file.

This basically the hack. I can PM you the fine tuned version for the ZS100

I would also welcome a PM with the hack. There's been a few times shooting video of a concert where a band plays an extended medley I reach 13 minutes and start muttering to myself, "Please end the song. Please end the song.
I shoot concert video and post my footage to YouTube

Below are a few of my settings.
Doing this allows you to set a custom function that has exposure control just below your right thumb...super easy quick access and you can adjust it while filming.
The other allows you to have ISO setting right below your thumb as well. All the control you need right there at your thumb tip....

Wrench/C Menu:

Screen 2: No Change
Screen 3: Direct focus area > on
Screen 4: Gridline > on
