MV-100 problem gone
« on: February 01, 2012, 12:22:12 AM »
Thanks to everyone who offered their help / opinions on my Beyer MV-100 problem from last September. As you will all remember, the last time I used the MV-100 I submitted a post because I had both channels drop out in three or four songs late in the show. (It was a stand-up stealth show). Shusss. I know I not supposed to mention that. ;)

I just recorded my first show of the new year last Sunday and the preamp worked flawlessly. No dropouts at all. (This one was a sit down show, so the equipment didn't move around at all in the bag but stayed in one spot on my lap.)

The only thing I can think of was that it was a loose cable (18th inch mini?) which caused both channels to drop out simultaneously. (I wouldn't think that both XLRs would be affected at the same time but I guess anything is possible.)

Oh well, I could always chalk it up to the taping gods not smiling upon me that one day.

Thanks again for everyone's help last Sept, but I think there is life left in the old girl yet. Glad I didn't replace it.

What did you do differently? Get a new Mini>Mini cable? Sounds like the culprit to me :)

No, the cable that terminates in the mini plug is a Y cable that comes off the RCA output of the MV-100. This was a sit down show and the equipment didn't move around, whereas the other was a standup show. That's the only thing I could think of that would have contributed to the problem.

Thanks for the reply.

VERY strange. I would think about replacing your cables ;)
