settings on V2>661
« on: February 19, 2012, 11:23:26 AM »
Any suggestions for initial settings on the V2 and 661, running Bsc2>V2>pmd661?  Using the V2 for the first time tonight at a BHTM show.  Thanks!

the XLR line in has a max of +15dbu
the bsc2 are ~20mv/pa (-34 ref), this means at about 120-124spl, you're pushing the -5dbu range (which in my experience is close to typical for the max peaks of concert taping and at least a nice starting point for calculations).

So given this information, if I were you, (assuming no gain on the 661) I'd start at 20db of gain on the big knobs and trim it back about a quarter of the way (so -3db) and then adjust from there after the first song.

Make sure to set the XLR input switch to Line, set the 661 gain knob to 6-7, then bring the V2 gain up until you get good levels on the recorder and you will be good to go.
