da-p1 preamp
« on: November 21, 2007, 01:09:58 PM »
so i was thinking...i always liked the sound i got from my akgs>da-p1.
then i got to thinking some more...
would it be possible to tear a P1 apart and use the parts to make a small analog pre-amp.
any ideas?

not sure why you would want to - i think the v3 is a much better pre

i think you would be limited with what the pre in the tascam could do - i am not positive, but i don't think you'd be able to control the gain, so it would be more like a battery box that just powers the mics and passes a signal...

well...i know its not any better than the V3, but i like the sound when paired with akgs.
i mean what do you do with a P1?
besides let it collect dust.

my understanding of the unit is that it is just basically phantom power with no real "pre"

any gain added is on the a/d stage i would think -

i guess you could go mics in on the dap-1 and keep it in rec/pause and pass a digital 16bit signal and record that....

i think you'd be better off selling it and getting the $ for it now while you still can...

I think that, while a tape is actually recording, the P1 will output the analog signal without doing AD/DA. Perhaps you could test this out?

I too like the sound of the P1 with AKG mics.

As for what to do with an old P1, I use one as a DA/ headphone amp for my AKG 701 headphones.
