Church Audio STC-9000 Question/Bass Roll Off?
« on: October 04, 2007, 05:21:18 PM »
Hey guys (and hopefully Chris will check this out), I have an STC-9000 preamp and just did a test run for a show tomorrow night. I hooked everything up: mics to input on the amp, output to R-09 line in. I set the R-09 to 13 and turned the input knob on the STC-9000 all the way up. We have the outdoor stereo speakers cranked up on the patio. I set the R-09 to record standby and nothing happens. I turn the R-09 input up to 30 and nothing. The R-09 worked fine when I unhooked the amp. I remembered that I had the bass roll off switch set to ON for my last recording and had turned it to the OFF position. So I opened up the amp and switched the bass roll off to ON and everything worked. Turn if off, nothing. Am I missing something? When the bass roll off was set to the OFF position, I could yell into the mics and I got no readings on the R-09. Anyone have an idea what might be going on?  Thanks in advance. Russ C.

maybe when it's in the off position, it's off?

Sound like something wrong with the switch.  My ST-9000 works fine with the bass roll-off off.  Are you sure it is fully off?  Maybe it is in an in-between position?  I'd PM Chris for some advice.

Vanark wins! :D Yeah, The switch wasn't fully engaging in the "off" position. I pushed it as far over as I felt comfortable and thought it was off. :P It wasn't. Chris was kind enough to call me and pointed that out over the phone. So I got a little flashlight, opened it up and sure enough, one of the plastic tabs that come off the back of the case was just close enough to keep the switch from moving all the way into the off position. Once I was able to press it ever so slightly downward it clicked into place and all is well! :D Thanks guys and a +T for Chris for taking the time to call me. Good customer service! Very soon I'll be ordering those omni caps!  rWc3523 8)

Glad it worked out with something you were able to fix yourself.  +T for figuring it out.

Vanark, well, Chris pointed out the possible problem and I just moved the switch the rest of the way ;) I didn't want to force it but when he mentioned that possibility, a little low watt light bulb DID come on! ;D

Dark train, with the STC-9000 turned upside down with the battery case opened, yeah, moving the switch left would turn it off, at least on mine. But mine's marked inside. Not sure about the 9100. PM Chris to be sure. I'm taping four bands tonight at a mini-festival here at home.

My son is also going to attempt to do a live webcast on synchronicitylive.com beginning at 6 p.m. It's the Urban Echo show so check it out if you can to see if it works. Thanks for the help. rWc3523 8)

is the off position to the left on the 9000/9100

The off position is not the same from unit to unit.  Chris marks the on and off positions on the bottom with a marker.....but it either fads or is very difficult to read.  He posted recently that he has changed to using a silver marker that will be more legible.

I'd go with 0 (zero) = off and 1 (one) = on

are the guts in this the same as the v3 9100? its not much diff than 9100 then if so (no clip light and fixed gain).

i emailed chris but he's probably busy. also, i wonder if i can get the 4.7k mod in this WITHOUT mini xlr? i mean, the mini XLR in itself lowers the DB no, without the 4.7k present?

thank anyone who can help.

i did PM him but i had a lot of questions on the differences.....i guess if the 9000 doesn't have the better guts, than i'll just get the 9100...anybody here know for sure? seems like that is the only thing that makes sense....based upon the price.
