Title: 1/8" male to 2x1/8" male?
Post by: jmz93 on May 22, 2008, 12:13:24 PM
I just got a used pair of DPA 4061's.  I thought/assumed they were terminated separately, into 1/8" connectors, but they are terminated together with a single 1/8" male connector.

My Church Audio ST9100 has two 1/8" female inputs, left and right.  Can I get a simple adapter with a single female 1/8" on one side, to two 1/8" male l/r on the other?

Or should I have the mics modified/separated?

thanks for answering what is probably a very simple question for this forum. :)

They make adapters like that, but I would suggest getting the mics re-terminated separatly.  The mic will perform better (being 3-wire)

dpa's are not a 3 wire system.  they are unbalanced. Its a coax type cable actually.

snip the end, re-solder new mono ends and you're golden.

Interesting.  I assumed they were like most of the other electrets.....

as did I...until I cut one and checked it out.
the wire is unique.  tons of fibers both in the shielding and in the actual microscopic wires that carry the signal.  they are sort of a PITA to work with.

OT but.... that sounds allot like the wire inside these professional Sony headphones I have. The 1/8" tip broke off, and I wanted to just solder a 1/4" on, but the wires inside were ... well ...unworkable....very small.... I don't even know what I was looking at.... very strange.

So is this same thing, and are they a PITA to work with.... or impossible? Someone told me a few years ago I should just get new headphones... not worth trying to fix.

send em to me.  i'll fix em for ya.
:)  you pay shipping.  no labor fees.  I hate to see good cans go wasted due to busted wire.
