Title: Seemlingly random dropouts on my recording?? (sample included)
Post by: achalsey on September 18, 2011, 01:06:50 AM
I ran onstage with CA14 (cards) > 9100 > iRiver H120 (w/ CF mod) and just listened to it and it has seemingly random dropouts on alternating and occasionally overlapping channels very frequently throughout the entire set.

It was a "set it and forget it" situation, so made sure levels were fine then just left the pre and recorder off to the side of the stage and didn't worry about it.  It wasn't crowded so I can't blame it on curious idiots while I wasn't looking.  Nothing like this has ever happened with this rig before and I'm not technical enough to know at all what caused this.  Thoughts?

Few minute MP3 sample from the first song, goes on like this all set:

+1.  Make sure it's reformatted in your recorder but it might be a bad card as well.  Barring that, maybe think about making the move to an M10?

A CF-mod Rockbox iRiver isn't quite the same as something like an M10 or R09.  The O/S is on the media, so be sure to:
- copy .rockbox to a safe place on your computer
- format the card via computer
- copy .rockbox back to the iRiver.

If you can't remember the last time you did that, then it's probably due.  I wouldn't think you need to format it every show like most people do with an M10 or R09, just delete the old recordings and make new ones, and format occasionally, like every dozen shows or something.  But I wouldn't be in the habit of constantly running with a near full card... if you have an 8gb card, don't get in the habit of having 6gb of old stuff on there and keep deleting and refilling the tail end of it... try to keep it fairly empty, or fragmentation will get you.
