Title: Budget Friendly Stealth Mics
Post by: Javit on June 29, 2005, 03:04:26 PM
Hi All, I'm looking to get some advice on some budget friendly stealth mics.  I've been running a pair of Core Sound Binaurals, but they're getting old and I'm just not happy with them anymore.  Should I send them back to Core to have them tuned up or just go for new mics?  And if so, whats a decent pair of stealth mics for around $250 or so?

Do you want to upgrade your CSB to another binaurals or cardioids?

I strongly recommend you soundprofessionals. And for that price you'll find very interesting audio technica pairs (such as SP-CMC-2/4 or SP-BMC-12).

Also, what Recorder are you using?

I'm using a JB3, and just a generic battery box.  No pre, should I get a pre?  I'll check out soundprofessionals.  Sorry Ray, there's no way I can save up $600 at this point in my life, but thanks :)

If the DPA route is too much and you want to stick in the $250 range try the (SP-CMC-8)AT943's
http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/item/SP-CMC-8

You can get different caps for them and you can get the phantom option if you want which allows for the full functionality of the mics.  I have the phantom kit but also use the battery box in SupaStealthMode and they work great.  There's a link to my recent Digable Planets recording that was recorded with them in 'Kickdown Central'.
