Title: Digital output CMOS MEMS microphone (single monolithic chip)
Post by: Gutbucket on October 11, 2006, 09:24:26 AM
Read about this in a design/engineering trade mag at work..

From the Akustica.com site:
Akustica's digital microphones are the world's first surface mountable monolithic digital microphone chips that integrate an acoustic transducer, analog output amplifier, and sigma-delta modulator on a single chip. The single-bit digital output stream connects to downstream electronics without shielded cabling or complex signal routing, providing the highest degree of design flexibility and freedom. Acoustic performance of Akustica digital microphone chips is equal to or better than conventional analog microphones... The output is Pulse Density Modulated (PDM), or a single-bit digital output stream that can be decimated by a digital filter in downstream electronics such as an audio CODEC, DSP, or base band processor.
