Sorry if it's old news - been waiting for a while on this.
Sennheiser MKH 8000 Series Press Release. (http://www.sennheiser.com/sennheiser/icm_eng.nsf/root/press_releases_press_release_mkh8000)

Very intersting. They mention a remote capsule cable so these may be another low profile option depending on how big the capule ends are. No mention of pricing, but available this summer.

If you need to make the already compact microphone (only 1.9 cm in diameter and 7.4 cm long) even smaller, you can detach the XLR module, connect the microphone head (4.1 cm) directly to one of Sennheiser’s special remote capsule accessories, and then simply attach the XLR module to its end, out of shot of the camera.
(Info buried in the press release - I added the bold text)

Those puppies are gonna be expensive! I bet they will be super, too. 8)

No they are not going to be expensive - certainly no more expensive than the equivalent Schoeps and considerably cheaper than the current MKH symmetrical capsule range. ;D

And the press release does not show all the accessories which are even cooler ;D

But isn't Neumann a Sennheiser company? With this new line, esp with the interchangeable capsules and remote capsule to mic body cabling, these new Senns seem to really overlap the Neumann km100 series.
How does Sennheiser position their mics to Neumanns? Is the neumann line the less expensive line and the Sennheiser the more expensive, higher-end line (or vice versa)? Or do they expect the neumann line and sennheiser line to totally overlap? I've always wondered this, and never really understood their business model. Seems like from a business perspective, one should be the Cadillac and one should be the Saturn line, but it's hard to see that either Senns or Neumanns are being positioned to be the low-cost, budget line.
Cool new Senn mics at any rate. Interested to learn more about them.

After talking a lot with the designers of the new series, I think they can be describes as:-
Accurate - without being clinical or hard
Warm - without being coloured
I have found out that, although the microphone diameter is only 19mm, the diaphragm size is the same as the old 25mm diameter microphones!
The bass extension on the directional capsules goes down to a genuine 30Hz (lower than most other directionals), the omni goes down to 10Hz.

When the prices are revealed here in Sweden I can probably help pepole get these to export prices, just as I do with the Milabs...
