Need to reduce distorted kick drum w/ Audacity or Audition!
« on: March 19, 2008, 08:21:55 AM »
I've been transferring some old tapes I made with an Aiwa recorder and mic before I knew what I was doing. In this recording of Barenaked Ladies, I was far too close to the stage, and the kick drum from the bass bins under the stage overwhelmed the microphone. I know I won't be able to make it sound normal again, but does anybody have any suggestions as to how I can at least reduce the impact of these kick drum hits? Obviously, I don't want to go through an entire two-hour show and reduce the volume of every kick drum hit, so any effects I might be able to apply to the whole file would be best. Below is a link to a short mp3 sample from the second song of the show that clearly demonstrates the problem.

Thanks!

whatever you try do it will still be there.
or remove certain freq but rec thins out in sonics to much to want to.

leave it alone for now and maby in future we might get
some super dooper program that does magic and we are good again.
that program not invented yet.

Just have to figure out two things:

1. What frequencies I hate
2. How to bracket them

:)

Thanks!
