Topic: bit torrent help

So Ive just got a quick question about getting the most out of bit torrent. I dont really know how I should have my "upload rate" and "max uploads." Should I actually use the settings that they give for cable? Or should I set my upload rate to unlimited? (The more you upload, the more you download right?) What about "max uploads" should I set it high or low? Im confused. Is there a website that covers all of this? THANKS!

The 'upload rate' is to cap how much bandwidth used for uploading. If you leave it at 0, it will upload at maximum capability (based on bandwidth and if you have any other applications also using u/l capacity). I generally set it a 50  so that I can continue to run the FTP server at the same time.

The 'max uploads' refers to the maximum number of uploads you wish to allow simultaneously. Personally, with the bandwidth I have, I find that one at a time is best. I think that this must be a feature more attuned to a multi-user environment.

"The main advantage of being able to cap the upload rate is that people with capped DSL or cable connections can set their limit just below their actual limit, therefore avoiding saturating the upstream completely, which could make it impossible to surf the net or download at decent speeds. Remember that setting your upload cap too low will lower your download performance"

i generally set my upload cap at 2/3 what i really have for upstream. otherwise web surfing gets painfully slow. i say if you have DSL set it at 10, cable set it at 12. i have not noticed any download speed differences between setting at a 8, 10, 12, or unlimited.

With cable you're usually capped at around 34k/sec upload.  I have it set up so that I'm using no more than 24k/sec with bit torrent.  That gives me plenty of overhead for normal surfing.
