Hi,
I am new to taping, but i've done a few records from Soundboard already.
But the SBD records sounds flat...
It needs crowd noise. What should i do ?
I dont wanna buy one more recorder. I think that mixing SBD and crowd MIC before recorder should work fine, but i wanna ask you about your experiences.

Thank you.

What is your current rig?  I think it will help us to know what you are running.

I use the Neuros HDD recorder.  + homemade batterypack + (sometimes) homemade stereo mics (MCE2500)

Well, you'd need to add a mixer to your rig to do it, but it will give the sbd tapes some life.

Someone had a sampson mixpad fs here a while back. Check the yardsale.

Do not use the word BOOTLEG

we are not BOOTLEGGERS

i've always preferred ambient recordings to sbds for the exact reason you said.  too dry sounding and not enough crowd noise if any at all.

of course sbd/aud matrix can really bring out the best of both worlds if done properly.  plenty of tapers haves used a unit called the UA5 to do a very nice matrix on the fly to their recorder.

but if i had to decide, 9 times out of 10 i go for just ambient recordings with only mics

How much is the UA5?
SBD records need some postprocessing. (Equalizer,..)  What do you use / your favourite settings?

not sure if the original prices have changed but i got my oade digi and warm mod ua5 for $550. maybe $575..... i can't really remember.

when matrixing post production probably won't be necessary. but to answer your question :) ......

most soundboards i listen to lack a decent amount of midrange and extreme high end due to necessary mix settings for the PA live in the venue.  so bump a little mids and little highs to add more "life to the recording.

other than that i don't do too much post production to soundboard recordings.

$250 on eBay for the UA-5.
But you have to modify it for field use.
The instructions for doing the digi-modification are in the archive section.
